Coureur de Bois

(Runner of the Woods)

The Coureur de Bois (II pictured above) is a modified Diamond Shelter which was one of the most widely used emergency / portable shelters in history.  We have combined the features of other shelters into this one fine, versatile, and functional unit.  The more you use it, the more you will discover all its many possibilities.

Note: The need for an additional item for one person has come to our attention.  Rather than change the Coureur II, we have come up with a (rain or shine) fly which is ideal for a dual-purpose shelter.  It's called the Coureur III.  The demand has been great for a one man shelter that is light weight, compact, easy to set-up, and that is dry and comfortable.  The bonus is that it can also be used as a separate shelter with your Coureur II.

To use as a fly with your Coureur II, just set the pocket of the Coureur III over the pocket of the Coureur II and fan it out.  Use ropes or poles to support the two back ties and you will have adequate sun shade and rain run off.  These units should give adequate headroom.  The overlap on the door plus the sod cloth will give you a very tight set-up.

We also have a dining fly for the Coureur II (9' x 14') with a pocket for attaching.  We have designed the fly so that it will fit the sides and can be tied down to keep the wind and rain from blowing in from the backside of your tent.

We also recommend to use an 8' sapling for securing the door poles.

We offer several styles of the Coureur since it has such a flexible design:

Coureur I

This first version represented our prototype model and although no longer available, the spirit still lives on in our newer designs.  Today, we offer the Coureur II and Coureur III - products with strong heritage to us that have been perfected over many years.

Coureur II

Measuring approximately 13' x 13' on the ground with a 9.5' pole, the Courerur II will give ample storage and sleeping room for two people (pictured above).

Coureur III

Measuring approximately 6' x 8' on the ground with a 5' pole, the Courerur III is a sit down unit for one man and his gear (photo coming soon).
